Marine farmers continue popular tours

Hosting approximately 120 participants, the British Colubmia Salmon Farmers Association (BCSFA) held 12 private and public group tours of marine farms throughout this year.  June was designated as Seafood Month in the province and the majority of the tours occurred during the Shellfish and Seafood Festival held as part of Seafood Month celebrations.

People want to visit a salmon farm for many different reasons. While some want to learn more about the industry, others see it as a unique and exciting experience – one that provides a great opportunity to spend the day out on the ocean.

“…  these farm tours are valuable in giving people an inside look at the industry – through the sights they see, as well as the knowledge they gain by speaking with the farmers,” said David Minato, Regulatory Affairs and Community Manager, BCSFA. “Participants love being on the farms and are always keen to learn as much as they can.”

These popular tours will return during the spring and summer of 2016.
